Head of R&D ( Lighting Controls ) £70k+ Neg Basic plus Bonus plus Car / Allowance 
Location: South East 

Our clients are an innovative SME designing and developing thier own electronic lighting control products and have an envious client base .. consisting of OEM's / End Users and Specifiers

They now seek to appoint a senior technical leader to thier team ...this is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for driving product innovation, managing a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring successful delivery from concept through to manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the R&D team across electronics, firmware, and product development.
• Oversee full lifecycle development of lighting control products.
• Plan and manage project schedules, timescales, and resource allocation.
• Manage the NPI process and collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure smooth product transition into production.
• Manage the compliance process including EMC, safety, and industry standards.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Operations, Quality, and Manufacturing.
• Liaise with the Finance Department concerning submissions for R&D Tax Credits.
• Drive continuous improvement, technical innovation, and best engineering practices.

About You

• Experienced in electronics product development—ideally lighting, controls IoT or power electronics.
• Strong knowledge of analogue/digital design, embedded systems, and communication protocols (e.g., DALI, 1-10v, DMX, Ethernet, Zigbee, Bluetooth).
• Proven leadership in guiding engineering teams and managing multiple projects.
• Familiar with DfM, DfT, and regulatory compliance for electronic devices.
• Degree in Electronics Engineering or related field.
