Senior Product Designer - ( Architectural Lighting ) £55-65k Plus Bonus + Benefits

About the Role

Working in a team of 6 within the design department you will be a hands-on engineer who is technically minded with an appreciation for electronics. You will be the one your colleagues look to for technical analysis and guidance. Your expertise and researched conclusions will help guide others within the department in challenging situations. An innovative member of the team who the rest of the business can also rely upon to respond to their questions by clear explanation of complex technical design matters in a straightforward manner.

Responsibilities
Lead and participate in the design & development of products

Generate ideas for new product developments in line with project briefs
Communicate ideas and support with any technical calculations using engineering theory
Produce CAD models, Technical drawings, GA’s and Build sheets
Set up appropriate tests, fixtures, and develop procedures for testing and reporting
Detail development of products to achieve the functional requirements and ease of assembly
Conduct detailed tolerance analysis and clearance and fits of sub-assemblies prior to specification for manufacture
Define materials to be used in designs and the manufacturing process to create them
Specify components in a design that can be sourced from a suitable supplier

Act as in-house design engineering & LED expert for R&D and other departments

Provide sound design guidance and advice to team members within the business
Research latest LED, Driver, Power Supply & Control technology and provide regular updates on specifications and market availability
Carry out and participate in design reviews
Keep up to date with relevant industry product compliance and legislation

Project manage all work activities

Follow and work within the NPD & CPD stage gate processes
Manage your tasks across multiple projects simultaneously giving updates regularly on your workload and project status as well as any areas of concern
Suggest improvements to company processes and procedures when identified

Candidate Requirements
Qualifications & Experience

Ability to work at a high technical level with excellent understanding of LEDs
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role. Ideally within the lighting industry or related; designing robust products for external environments
In-depth, experienced-based knowledge and understanding of manufacturing technologies and processes - design for injection moulding, die casting, fabrication, machining.
3D CAD and Product Data Management experience. Preferably Solid-works and PDM
Advantageous for candidates to hold a formal qualification i.e. HND/ HNC/ Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Product Design Degree’s
Good familiarity and compliance with lighting standards [BS EN 60598]
Understanding of ISO 9001 & ISO 14001
Highly self-motivated with excellent communication skills
