Senior Product Designer - ( Architectural Lighting ) £45-60k+ Neg Basic ( DOE ) + Bonus + Benefits 

Working as part of the Research and Development Team you will be technically responsible for new product development projects assigned to you, working closely alongside other internal teams. Carrying out the design and test reviews, technical analysis, and supplier communication. You will be expected to contribute to the innovation pipeline to ensure the company is producing concepts that disrupt/change perceptions/create new demand.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work within the UK R&D team & overseas suppliers on the technical aspects (mechanical & electrical) of new products and product upgrades/modifications/value engineering projects assigned to you in accordance with the NPD process.
  • Create 3D designs and produce clear design review and feedback documents.
  • Work with in-house lab, Quality department and 3rd party test houses to ensure all prototypes are fully appraised, tested and compliant before going into production.
  • Clearly communicate project progress and upcoming challenges to internal teams.
  • Be commercially aware but always keep close control of product quality and performance targets.
  • Build and maintain product technical files for all products.
  • Generate innovative ideas for new product concepts and present these to the wider management team.
  • Keep up to date with industry news, developments, technological advances, regulation updates etc.
  • Put forward ideas to improve products, company profitability and the company processes.

Person Specification

Essential

  •  Engineering (mechanical & electrical) / design / technology degree or equivalent.
  •  Inventive mind
  •  A keen interest in science and technology
  •  3D design skills - Solidworks  (Creo or similar)
  •  Confidence to explain concepts to colleagues
  •  Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple projects
  •  Excellent communication and organisational skills

 

Desirable

· Knowledge of LED lighting technology and lighting products.

· Knowledge of lighting regulations and standards.

Personality: 

The role requires a proficient, logical person who has a critical eye for detail/quality. Must have an inventive and inquisitive mind and want to ‘invent’. With a pro-active and enthusiastic attitude this person will have excellent communication/organisational skills and a proven ability to meet multiple deadlines within a fast-paced environment. Working in a small R&D team ( and growing ) , the person must be comfortable in dealing with people at many levels within the UK business and with overseas suppliers. Keen for a new experience, responsibility and accountability, you must be able to work effectively within a team and be a good team-player.

Personal location: Must be flexible and able to commute easily to the office HQ ( South East ) 

IT skills: Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. At least working knowledge of Solidworks, Creo 3D design software or equivalent.

Management Ability: 

Early promotion is highly likely as the Company wish to expand this area of the business …!
