The Role
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Operations Manager is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for leading Operations to meet the business objectives. The role accountability covers EHS, Quality, Production, Procurement, Logistics and Facility management to ensure all activities operate effectively and in compliance with legal and contractual obligations. The role includes the continual review and development of Operations to achieve market leading performance in terms of safety, quality, lead time and competitiveness. The role includes effective liaison with Engineering for production support and roll out of R&D programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all operations functions to achieve business objectives including safety, quality, on time delivery, and cost.
Define business unit specific performance KPIs to monitor operational success against overall business objectives. Review with line managers and support the implementation of actions.
Provide exceptional leadership to ensure a high performing and effective team, embedding a performance culture whilst positively motivating all staff. This includes carrying out annual appraisals, regular reviews and producing training and development plans to ensure the effectiveness of the operations group.
Plan ahead including leading S&OP activities, and anticipate future challenges, providing solutions as needed to meet strategic objectives.
Drive a culture of continual improvement using best practice, lean principles to increase productivity and reduce operational costs whilst maintaining excellent quality. Instigating and leading projects to proactively move the company forward.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrable experience of managing Operations or a range of Operations functions within a medium volume, product line assembly industry.
- Proven track record of productivity and process improvements including implementing lean production methods - Kanban, Backflushing, 5S within an SME business.
- Strong financial and business-related experience including commercial appreciation.
- Strong, passionate, and motivational leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to positively influence at all levels.
- Experience of managing a diverse team.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience of managing continual improvement and change management programmes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to plan and organise effectively.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance
