Head of Product Management (Electrical Category) Midlands £65-75k Neg + Bonus + Car

The Role:

The Head of Product Manager (HPM) is responsible for the overall management of the Product Marketing function and team in the Electrical Division
The HPM is also tasked with managing new product launches, ensuring existing products continue to receive maximum exposure, planning strategically to ensure the successful introduction of new products.

Role and Duties:

  • Develop (in conjunction with the MD) the vision, goals, strategies and tactics for the successful bi-annual launch of new products into the Consumer / Trade Divisions of the UK and International HUBS.
  • Understand the material differences in product specifications and market preferences between the multiple countries that are serviced in the relevant sector.
  • Once identified, carry out extensive evaluation (in conjunction with the Commercial team and HUB Leaders) of the economic merits of selling these new products into the respective markets. Measure the cost of development including specification changes, tooling changes, compliance costs, sales volumes, margins and competitive pricing.
  • Once ratified, prioritise this new development portfolio and work with the Group R&D Development Director and Managing Director to develop an action plan to manufacture OR source these new products – and expedite to market.
  • Analyse product risk, market risk and economic data as well as internal performance information to underpin the decision to invest in these new products.
  • Assists with the development and execution of market intelligence (MIA) efforts to uncover insights, trends and opportunities that lead to growth.  Transform these findings into actionable insights to inform positioning and/or marketing strategies.
  • Monitor, understand and respond to competitive product performance, branding, messaging, and tactics.
  • Develop cohesive and actionable marketing plans to effectively capture and grow market segment share in trade via multiple brands and channels.
  • Manage a marketing budget and allocate marketing mix and spend for campaigns across the Group.
  • Create a go-to-market plan to deliver successful product launches in the UK & overseas territories.
  • Identify opportunities to drive sales growth by understanding existing and new customer channel usage and identify gaps, opportunities and design necessary action plans.
  • Monitors sales and marketing trends and make recommendations for enhancing market penetration and sales growth.
  • As appropriate, attend Management meetings of the UK and overseas.
  • Recognise the importance of the trend towards smart connected electrical products and work with the team to develop a roadmap to ‘Smarten’ the existing portfolio.
  • Be responsible for the day to day management of the product marketing teams in UK i.e. recruitment, succession planning & development etc

Qualifications & Experience
A first-class Marketing or Commercial degree or demonstrated related experience.
Strong technical experience or background in Electrical / Electronic products or an associated industry. An understanding of connected devices and the IOT would be advantageous.
Experience of sourcing /developing products for the European and Asian markets
Substantial experience in Product Marketing or Product Management.
