Technical Author £55k Neg Basic Plus 15% OTE

The Technical Author works alongside the Bid Management resources to engage with Bid Leaders (Contract Managers) and technical peers from across sector disciplines to deliver compelling winning bids.

The key focus of the role is to work with technical peers to develop the technical solution, to storyboard and then to draft methodology for key bids proposals.

Responsibilities Include

·        Engaging with Business Development to research future strategic opportunities in the pipeline from a technical perspective.

·        Driving the business to prepare in advance of live tender activity – understanding client drivers and key project challenges.

·        Working with stakeholders to position with the client, and the supply chain in preparation for tender.

·        Developing a bid strategy.

·        Analysing tender documentation to uncover what’s important.

·        Undertaking detailed client / project / scope / stakeholder / competitor research to better understand opportunities.

·        Facilitating workshops with the wider bid team to share knowledge and develop a strategy.

·        Become the ambassador for the strategy within the entire bid team (leadership)

·        Solution development.

·        Analysing the technical requirements of the project.

·        Supporting the drafting of any technical tender queries.

·        Working with stakeholders / disciplines to develop the technical solution – "how we will build it".

·        Roadmap Company methodology, including discriminators – what makes our solution different

·        Answer plan / storyboard with the team to understand the question / requirements / scoring mechanisms and set a clear path for bid team to deliver in line with the strategy.

·        Draft allocated technical responses and methodology for review by the bid lead.

·        Proof / copy edit responses developed by others to ensure compliant, compelling, benefits-driven copy.

·        Support the writing of compelling, factual, focused executive summaries.

·        Submit the bid.

·        Ensure content is fully compliant, quality checked to deliver a bid to deadline.

·        Post-tender presentations.

·        Supporting storyboarding of presentations.

·        Supporting the creation additional content – printed models / video / large-format printing.

·        Coach & rehearse the team to ensure successful delivery.

·        Capture all new content within Bid Content Library (Aftercare).

·        Record and share lessons learnt / best working practice.

·        Provide appropriate coaching and feedback to members of the department outside of line management to support the ongoing improvement of the department.

·        Contribute to and influence the department’s overall resourcing planning.

 

Requirements:

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:-

·        Strong organisational and project management skills.

·        Very high standard of written English, skilled in editing copy to correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with the ability to shape compelling responses.

·        Skilled to manage delivery through direct reports and colleagues, including technical employees at all levels, bid colleagues, marketing and communications and external suppliers.

·        Skilled in supervising employees, to include delegating responsibility, training and evaluating performance.

·        An understanding of professional TFM service and/or the building/property industry.

·        Adobe suite of software or relevant solution.

·        Strong commitment to internal client care.

·        Confident at communicating at all levels.

·        Strong attention to detail and error-free delivery.

·        Flexible and open to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within compressed timeframes.

·        Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with team, colleagues and consultants / suppliers and stakeholders in a professional, consistent manner.

·        Ability to exercise judgment to solve tactical problems where the answer is not apparent.

·        Flexibility to work outside standard working hours to meet bid needs.

·        Demonstrable experience of working in a professional services environment, ideally FM environment.

·        Extensive writing experience in a professional and / or journalistic environment.

·        Demonstrable project management experience.

·        Experience translating business / brand strategy to content / communications.

·        An understanding of the building/property FM industry preferred.

·        Five years’ experience specifically focused on bidding.

 

Qualifications

Degree Qualifications or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
Ideally member of CIBSE / BIFM or another appropriate professional body.
